How we view the world
How can you succeed as a business in a society that fails? In a time that the natural boundaries of our planet have been reached, it is time to (re)discover the shared purpose between business and society, and start working towards sustainable transitions such as climate, food, water, and energy, guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We need to start Winning with society and create Triple Value for business, society and the planet in one integrated approach.
What we believe in
We believe in the potential of leaders and their organizations to create a sustainable world. They have the knowledge, skills and resources to serve the needs of society while respecting the natural environment. Since we are all interconnected, what is good for the world, should also be good for business.
We work together with organizations that are motivated to align their own needs with creating value for the needs of customers and society. We help these organizations (for-profit and not-for-profit) to discover their 'shared purpose' in order to meet sustainable development goals (laid down in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals declared by the UN).
This is good for the world, as well as for these organizations themselves. People working in 'shared purpose organizations' usually show improved mental, emotional and social capabilities, as well as enhanced quality of cooperation with internal and external stakeholders. These organizations are more resilient in the face of disruptive change and show more enduring revenue-generating capacity than those who only focus on single value goals such as financial profits. We work with anyone who has the ambition to become such Triple Value creating organization.
What we do
Our scientifically-validated method Winning with Society helps organizations to develop their leadership and strategy to create Triple Value - that is, value for themselves, their customers and society. Winning with Society is an integrated approach that includes three steps:
- Knowledge development: creating knowledge, through research, on the strategic link between the needs of business, market and society.
- Leadership and strategy development: creating shared purpose and a lasting strategy for leaders, their business, market and society, through coaching and consulting.
- Impact creation: measurable output, outcome and impact through sustainable innovation and by opening up new markets with a positive impact on business and society.
The people behind Flow Foundation
Flow Foundation is founded by Muriel Arts and Sander Tideman.
Mr. Sander Tideman
Co-Founder & Director
‘An organization is like a living being. Besides efficiency it also needs a vision, be resilient, have a sense of purpose and be connected with its environment. These attributes create shared value for all its stakeholders. Creating shared value starts with sustainable leadership.’
Drs. Muriel Arts
Co-founder & Director
‘Companies are crucial for improving the world. They're the largest global transnational institution, larger than non-profits and governments combined. They can innovate, create value and scale like no other. The notion that tackling societal challenges is only the the domain of NGO's or governments is out-of-date. How can a business be successful in a society that struggles? Organizations are potentially very effective, smart and innovative networks that are able to solve social problems. We need to cooperate with them and utilize their power to tackle major issues in society. 'Business as a force for good', that is what I believe in.’

'I am a Cultural Anthropologist, focused on sustainable development and global economy. I dedicated myself to a topic that is close to my hart: how international institutions and businesses influence the way people deal with or respond to issues of poverty and development and economic security. I focus on the meaning and value that people give to these topics, with an understanding of their local cultures within a globalizing world.'
